TYPICAL JOB DUTIES:
To maintain the school buildings and efficient management of the facility as to usefulness, appearance, safety hazards, cleanliness and minor repairs not requiring skilled tradesman. Other job-related duties will be assigned. The substitute custodian will perform all duties of the position within the scope of Columbia School District policies and procedures.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

- Complete Safe Schools Web Based Training within thirty (30) days of hire and yearly thereafter.

QUALIFICATIONS PREFERRED:
- Has knowledge of and demonstrate general custodial skills.
- Strong work ethic and a self-starting ability.
- Organize time well; initiate work.
- Read and write in English, and follow directions/instructions and perform basic math calculations.
- Work cooperatively as a member of the custodial team to accomplish specific goals.
- Present a positive image for the school district and willing to follow District policies and procedures.
- Provide positive evaluations and recommendations that support character and work ethic.
- Demonstrate excellent attendance, punctuality, dependability, self-disciplined, and a self-starter.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
The substitute custodian will:
- Accomplish all tasks in a professional manner.
- Secure building.
- Conduct regular inspections of the facility and report needed repairs on work order forms.
- Set up for special programs.
- Make minor repairs (chairs, tables, etc.).
- Perform general labor as needed: i.e. moving equipment, desks, tables, etc.
- Perform related duties as assigned by principal.
- Work cooperatively with students, teachers and administrators.
- Possess basic operational knowledge of and ability to operate custodial equipment and the heating/cooling systems.
- Raise/lower flags.\
- Use power equipment and hand tools such as shovel, broom, mop, squeegee, burnish, and vacuum required for the cleaning and general maintenance of floors, wall, carpets and furniture.
- Clean and sanitize toilets, shower rooms and fixtures.
- Empty wastebaskets and trash containers.
- Dust furniture and light fixtures; clean chalkboards and erasers.
- Sweep, mop and polish floors. Wash windows.
- Replace light bulbs, tissue and other restroom supplies.
- Clean sidewalks and keep driveway litter free, perform snow and ice removal.
- Perform all other related duties as assigned by supervisor pertaining to job classification.
- Performs all duties of the position within the scope of Columbia School District policies and procedures, including regular attendance and punctuality.

- Mathematical Skills: Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide whole numbers, fractions, and decimal numbers. Ability to calculate percentages, proportions, area, circumference, and volume.
- Reasoning Ability: Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw conclusions. Ability to interpret variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

- Mobility: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls. The employee is sometimes required to sit, frequently required to reach with hands and arms. The employee is frequently required to stand, walk, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. Employee will frequently use ladders while performing daily responsibilities.
- Senses: The employee is often required to listen to slight variations in pitch, amplitude, and frequency. The employee must be able to communicate effectively in person, over the telephone, and by using the district radio communications system. The employee is occasionally required to taste or smell. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
- Lifting: The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 35 pounds; frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds; occasionally lift and/or move over 100 pounds.

- Physical Hazards: While performing the duties of this job, the employee frequently works near moving mechanical parts; in high, precarious places; in outside weather conditions; and may be exposed to risk of electrical shock. The employee will occasionally be exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, extreme cold, extreme heat, and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate, but may on occasion be loud and require hearing protection. Working on rooftops and confined spaces occasionally occur in the performance of daily job responsibilities.
