EMERGENCY SUB TEACHER APPLICATION PROCESS
You must complete two steps in order to be hired as an emergency substitute teacher:
Step One
- Apply for the emergency substitute teacher opening with Columbia School District (csd400.org)
- Hold a Bachelor’s degree (transcripts must be attached with bachelor’s degree posted).
- Describe experience working with children/teens (volunteering in schools, coaching, teaching Sunday school, etc.)
- Please have at least three supervisor references with e-mail contact information included in your application online.
- Create an E-Cert Profile at OSPI http:/www.k12.wa.us/certification
Step Two – can be done concurrently with Step 1
- The Emergency Sub Teacher Certificate is issued through the Office of Superintendent of Public Instruction (OSPI) http:/www.k12.wa.us/certification. Follow the instructions below (First-Time Application for Emergency Sub Teachers) to complete the application process with OSPI.
- Within the Emergency Sub Certificate application, there is form- “District Request for Emergency Substitute Certificate.” CSD cannot add a request until applicant has been cleared to be hired as an emergency sub teacher by the CSD.

JOB DESCRIPTION / ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
This position will involve working as a substitute/on-call teacher to assist schools on a program need basis. The positions will be varied, and may include instruction with basic education and disabled students in self-contained and regular education settings, recess and performing other job-related duties as assigned. All duties of the position will be performed within the scope of Columbia School District policies and procedures, including regular attendance and punctuality.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:

Able and available to work Monday-Friday, hours vary depending on assignment - exceptions will be considered. Earliest assignment at 7:30 a.m. - 2:40 p.m. Must be able to work at various locations as needed.

Able to work in any classroom, including all special services classrooms.

Supervise the care of disabled children, including toileting and other needed responsibilities.

Uphold board policies and follow administrative procedures.

Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials and facilities.

Show evidence of ability to assess and correct issues involving safety.
-
Demonstrate evidence of ability to establish and maintain a tactful, cooperative and effective relationship with students, parents, staff, fellow employees and management.

Demonstrate evidence of ability to approach assigned work in a professional manner, working toward the common goal of teamwork, pride in service delivery and continuous improvement.

Demonstrate sufficient command of the English language to communicate verbally and in writing with students, parents, district staff members and other concerned people regarding all aspects of their job related activities.

Use basic computer programs to maintain records, enter timecard information and read and respond to email.

Become first-aid certified, if required.

Maintain evidence of positive evaluations, excellent attendance and punctuality, evidence of ability to be self-disciplined and a self-starter.

Adhere to and maintain confidentiality in accordance with the law and Columbia School District (CSD) policy

Lifting: The employee must be able to lift or move up to 18-50 lbs and up to 100 lbs with help; must also be able to lift overhead.
