.5 Hours/Per day (24/25 School year only)

 

The paraprofessional will provide academic support to students after school in the Middle School After School Program. Some children may have specific learning disabilities. 

 

Qualifications:

  • Successful experience with elementary school-aged special needs children; including experience implementing specially designed programs preferred, not required.
  • Enthusiasm to work with students in a variety of settings.
  • Physical stamina as required to work effectively with school-aged students including special needs students; ability to keep pace and work with children of various disabilities, if needed.
  • Excellent writing/communication capability in Standard English.
  • High School Diploma/equivalent required. 
  • Be deemed Highly Qualified per NCLB Requirements.  To be highly qualified you must meet one of the following requirements: AA degree,72 approved quarter credits, or passing score on Para Pro assessment (Para pro assessment can be taken upon application, but must be passed prior to being hired.)
  • Experience with computers preferred, not required.
  • Successful experience working with children of diverse ethnic and economic backgrounds.
  • Excellent evaluations and references.
  • Ability to collaborate and work effectively with other educators and parents.
  • Ability and enthusiasm to fulfill the job description.

 

           

The successful candidate shall:

 

  • Provide appropriate assessment for students under the direction of the teacher. 
  • Implement appropriate instructional strategies for students in conjunction with classroom teacher 
  • Take initiative to implement activities or help with classroom preparation 
  • Assist students with goals and objectives that facilitate and measure student growth. 
  • Maintain proper records and facilitate the necessary paperwork and forms as required by law and district policy under teacher direction. 
  • Be flexible to the demands of the position and work closely with classroom teacher in assisting the needs of young children both in and outside of the classroom. 
  • Work with students in an enthusiastic, supportive, and consistent manner. 
  • Adhere to and maintain confidentiality in accordance with the law and District policy. 
  • Communicate effectively with children, staff and parents of children regarding any support needed. 
  • Help meet the physical needs of students with learning disabilities.

Mobility: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand and walk for prolonged periods of time, push or pull 18-26 lbs., sit, kneel and crouch, twist and bend, use hands to type, finger, handle, or feel; and reach with hands and arm. 

 

Sense: The employee is required to talk/hear conversations and other sounds. The employee must be able to communicate effectively in person and over the telephone. The employee is required to taste and smell. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, far vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus. 

 

Lifting: The employee must be able to lift or move up to 10 lbs. regularly and occasionally up to 26 lbs; must also be able to lift overhead. The employee may be required to physically move quickly in an emergency or while performing student supervision duties.

Physical Hazards: While performing the duties of this job, the employee must be able to work outdoors in a wide variety of temperatures; from -10 degrees F to 100 degrees F +. The employee may be exposed to wet and/or humid conditions. The noise level in this work environment is moderate.
