Job Description:

This paraprofessional will lead the tutoring program at Columbia High School by tracking student data, interfacing between students and teachers and supporting student learning. 

 

Qualifications:

  1. High School Diploma/equivalent required.
  2. Be deemed Highly Qualified per NCLB Requirements. To be highly qualified you must meet one of the following requirements:
    • AA degree
    • 72 approved quarter credits or
    • Passing score on Para Pro assessment (Para pro assessment can be taken upon application, but must be passed prior to being hired.)
  3. Valid first aid and CPR card desired.
  4. Successful experience in assisting with children in the past 5 years.
  5. Demonstrated knowledge of developmentally appropriate practices.
  6. Physical stamina as required to keep pace with young children of various abilities.
  7. Strong writing abilities, demonstrating competency in Standard English format and conventions.
  8. Demonstrated experience with computers, wordprocessing and spreadsheets.
  9. Possess skills able to fulfill listed job description.
  10. Satisfactory evaluations and reference checks
  11. Evidence of successful experience in working with children of various economic backgrounds and minority groups.
  12. Quality communication skills, able to interact with staff, students, community.

 The successful candidate shall:

- Assist students with goals and objectives that facilitate and measure student growth.

- Take initiative to implement activities

- Support students in the tutoring center

- Push to increase student participation in tutoring and interventions

 

 

This position is for one hour daily, roughly 2:40 - 3:40 or as adjusted.

Mobility: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand and walk for prolonged periods of time, push or pull 18-26 lbs., sit, kneel and crouch, twist and bend, use hands to type, finger, handle, or feel; and reach with hands and arm.

 

Sense: The employee is required to talk/hear conversations and other sounds. The employee must be able to communicate effectively in person and over the telephone. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, far vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.

 

Lifting: The employee must be able to lift or move up to 10 lbs. regularly and occasionally up to 26 lbs; must also be able to lift overhead. The employee may be required to physically move quickly in an emergency or while performing student supervision duties.
