JOB DESCRIPTION:

 

The School Psychologist is a specialist in child growth and developement as it relates to the child's overall adjustment. This position works closely with school district leadership to design, implement, and monitor effective research-based programs and strategies for students with disabilities and at-risk students, including the management of special education resources. School Psychologists also serves as a liaison between the school and other agencies on behalf of children with disabilities and their families.

 

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Consult with parents, administrators, teachers and students concerning the educational and emotional needs of students.
  • Evaluate students suspected of having a disability, or learning difficulties.
  • Coordinate student services between the school and other agencies.
  • Serve as a member of an educational team to help address the needs of students.
  • Administer and interpret tests of intelligence, achievement, multi-aptitude and methods of behavioral and curriculum based assessment.
  • Determine eligibility of children with disabilities.
  • Work with teachers to establish individual education plans.
  • Complete all required reports and records.
  • Ensure compliance with state and federal special education regulations in the eligibility evaluation and reevaluation process.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

 

OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Provide required reports according to agency, district, and OSPI policies and deadlines.
  • Ensure compliance with HIPPAA, FERPA, state and federal confidentiality, data reporting requirements, and laws.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Master's Degree with initial or continuing ESA certification as a school psychologist in Washington State.
  • Experience working with children ages birth through 21 years of age with various disabilities. WSP/FBI Background clearance required

Requires knowledge of:

  • Best Practices in School Psychology
  • Exceptional skill in human relations, verbal and written communications, and leadership
  • Exceptional ability to lead, work, and communicate (orally and in writing) effectively with co-works, and stakeholders
  • Working knowledge and experience with the goals of Washington State Educational Reform, Response to Intervention, Washington Administrative Code, Regulatory Code of Washington, and the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA)

Mobility: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand and walk for prolonged periods of time, push or pull 18-26 lbs., sit, kneel and crouch, twist and bend, use hands to type, finger, handle, or feel; and reach with hands and arm.

 

Sense: The employee is required to talk/hear conversations and other sounds. The employee must be able to communicate effectively in person and over the telephone. The employee is required to taste and smell. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, far vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.

 

Lifting: The employee must be able to lift or move up to 10 lbs. regularly and occasionally up to 26 lbs; must also be able to lift overhead. The employee may be required to physically move quickly in an emergency or while performing student supervision duties.

Physical Hazards: While performing the duties of this job, the employee must be able to work outdoors in a wide variety of temperatures; from -10 degrees F to 100 degrees F +. The employee may be exposed to wet and/or humid conditions. The noise level in this work environment is moderate.
