JOB DESCRIPTION / ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

This position will involve working as a substitute/on-call teacher to assist schools on a program need basis. The positions will be varied, and may include instruction with basic education and disabled students in self-contained and regular education settings, recess and performing other job-related duties as assigned. All duties of the position will be performed within the scope of Columbia School District policies and procedures, including regular attendance and punctuality.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:

  1. Hold a Bachelor’s Degree.

  2. Able to perform the essential functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodation.

  3. Able to meet the Physical Demands of the position.

  4. Pass a background check, which includes employee paid fingerprinting.

  5. Provide positive recommendations/references from previous supervisors.  Family and friends will not be considered acceptable references.

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:

  1. Able and available to work Monday-Friday, hours vary depending on assignment - exceptions will be considered. Earliest assignment at 7:30 a.m. - 2:40 p.m.  Must be able to work at various locations as needed.

  2. Able to work in any classroom, including all special services classrooms.

  3. Supervise the care of disabled children, including toileting and other needed responsibilities.

  4. Uphold board policies and follow administrative procedures.

  5. Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials and facilities.

  6. Show evidence of ability to assess and correct issues involving safety.

  7. Demonstrate evidence of ability to establish and maintain a tactful, cooperative and effective relationship with students, parents, staff, fellow employees and management.

  8. Demonstrate evidence of ability to approach assigned work in a professional manner, working toward the common goal of teamwork, pride in service delivery and continuous improvement.

  9. Demonstrate sufficient command of the English language to communicate verbally and in writing with students, parents, district staff members and other concerned people regarding all aspects of their job related activities.

  10. Use basic computer programs to maintain records, enter timecard information and read and respond to email.

  11. Become first-aid certified, if required.

  12. Maintain evidence of positive evaluations, excellent attendance and punctuality, evidence of ability to be self-disciplined and a self-starter.

  13. Adhere to and maintain confidentiality in accordance with the law and Columbia School District (CSD) policy

 

QUALIFICATIONS PREFERRED:

  1. Demonstrate clerical skills, training and/or experience in using computers and other technology applications.

  2. Demonstrate flexibility with the varied demands of the position.

  3. Communicate effectively and work with a variety of people.

  4. Work with all children within the school regardless of abilities.

  5. Support and promote the curriculum.

  6. Support and actively implement building-wide and CSD’s goals and Core Business as outlined in the CSD’s Unified Instructional Core.

 

 JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Follow teacher lesson plan.

  2. Maintain a safe and calm teaching environment.

  3. Model appropriate behavior.

  4. Apply appropriate classroom management techniques

  5. Direct paraeducators in their duties.

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT:

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The physical demands described here represent those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

Mobility:  While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand and walk for prolonged periods of time, push or pull 18-50 lbs., sit, kneel and crouch, twist and bend,  use hands to type, finger, handle, or feel; and reach with hands and arm. The employee may be required to physically move quickly in an emergency or while performing student supervision duties

 

Sense:  The employee is required to talk/hear conversations and other sounds. The employee must be able to communicate effectively in person and over the telephone.  The employee is required to taste and smell.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, far vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.

 

Lifting: The employee must be able to lift or move up to 18-50 lbs and up to 100 lbs with help; must also be able to lift overhead.

Physical Hazards:  While performing the duties of this job, the employee must be able to work outdoors in a wide variety of temperatures; from -10 degrees F to 100 degrees F +.   The employee may be exposed to wet and/or humid conditions.  The noise level in this work environment is moderate.
